AETNA TEAM CYCLING WINS TROOPER DAVID MEMORIAL RACE
Racers in the northeast welcomed-in the much-loved “Trooper David Memorial Series” this weekend. The action is hot in these Coxsackie, New York-based races but the temps are typically cold and windy.
On Saturday, Aetna Cycling Team members Tim Ahearn, Dan Caridi, Dave Hoyle, and Ryan Serbel traveled to this rural section of New York to race against a field of 100.
After a brief neutral start the race was underway. Tim was the first Aetna rider to go on the move and he stayed away for 2 laps, solo. Tim was eventually reeled in and after some leg-softening attacks from teammate Dave Hoyle, Tim leapt into another lengthy breakaway of four riders.
With two kilometers to go the break was brought back.
Many riders hopped on the front and geared up for the ensuing bunch sprint. The final 90-degree turn into the last 300 meters nearly halted the riders due to the head-and-crosswinds.
Ryan tucked in his Raleigh Militis 3 behind a few riders, stayed sheltered until 100 meters to the line, launched his sprint, and secured the win.
With another spring race in the books, the Aetna Cycling Team is honing its team tactics and will look to defend the win in next week’s circuit race (round two in the “Trooper David Memorial Race Series”).
