RALEIGH’S CAROLINE MANI WINS GOWDY GRINDER
Caroline Mani of Team Raleigh-Clement showed off her mountain bike skills this weekend with a victory at the Gowdy Grinder, a regional mountain bike race held at Curt Gowdy State Park near Cheyenne, Wyoming.
“What a fun race,” said Mani. “The course was fantastic and the trails were really technical!” The trails at Gowdy are famous for technical rock gardens, exposed granite boulders, and big fun.
Mani, who recently won the Sea Otter Classic cyclocross race, is off to a successful summer of racing and training in preparation for the upcoming cyclocross season.
“The course had lots of short, punchy climbs and I felt really good. My legs had good power and I was smooth on the technical stuff. I feel like I’m on track with my training and racing.”
The rest of the summer will include a variety of races for Mani. Next weekend, she’ll join Raleigh-Clement teammate Ben Berden at the Gravel Metric, a popular gravel grinder on farm roads around DeKalb, Illinois. Then she’ll get back on the mountain bike for the legendary Bump n’ Grind in Alabama, part of the Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour (Pro XCT). After that she’ll tackle the KMC Classic in her adopted hometown of Colorado Springs. The race serves as the Colorado State XC Championships this year.
Mani recently extended her contract with the Raleigh-Clement team for two years, and her main focus will be the U.S. cyclocross season and selected races in Europe. Her next cyclocross race will be the July Midsummer Nights Cyclocross Race at Dealer Camp in Park City, Utah, an event sponsored by Raleigh.
